The alarm rang in my ears. I pressed the snooze button in order not to wake up all the other people in the hotel. It was 7 o’clock in the morning. Way to early! I my eyes before I got up from bed. The view from my hotel room was amazing. I remember watching the Twin Towers from the window. It was now 07:18 and I was ready to eat breakfast, a real American breakfast! I was not hungry, but since this was my last day in America, I enjoyed it as much as I could! After breakfast, I went up to my hotel room and looked out the big window. The Twin Towers were still there, only a 30 min walk from the hotel. I packed my clothes and my personal belongings into my huge bag, and I was all set to fly home. However, before I left, I decided to go outside one last time. I went to one of the stores to buy some snacks and something for the trip home, but it was remarkably quiet in the streets. Like something was wrong.
It was 08:40, and I could hear a noise that sounded like a plane. I tried to ignore it, but the sound kept growing bigger and bigger! For some reason, I looked at the Twin Towers. They were still there. For a moment I thought I was daydreaming, I saw a huge plane rushing towards one of the towers. People in the streets started gasping in horror, they could not believe their own eyes, and neither did I. All I could hear, was the sound of the plane crashing into the building. The ground was shaking and there were people screaming in the background. It did not take more than 5 minutes and I heard sirens everywhere. What should I do? I was just a tourist in the middle of nothing but chaos!
The top of the main tower was covered in smoke, and flames were raging out the windows. Inside and above the fires, I saw people hanging out the windows, trying to get air. I saw at least two persons jumping from the window, probably because they did not want to burn to death!
It was 9 o’clock. The towers were still there, but it looked like one of the towers did not have much time left. My plane was supposed to leave 8:50. I was nervous and scared.
I remember the people in the streets, some were crying, some were shocked and some people seemed like they were totally lost. As if this was not bad enough, bad turned worse. I heard a second plane behind all the people screaming. I scavenged the sky for a plane, doing my hardest to get a look of it, and Just 200 meters away from the second tower, I saw the plane.
By the look of it, the plane were Traveling about 700-900 km/h. In a blink, it rammed into the building like a butter knife going through butter. Flames and smokes were all over the building. Pieces from the plane and the building were flying around and people were running in the middle of the road like maniacs! There was nothing to do, even the firefighters and the police could not do anything, but to get people away from the World Trade Center and lead them away from the building, and There it was only a matter of time before one of the buildings would fall.
It was 09:57 and I was even closer the two towers. They were still burning and smoke came out of almost every window. I decided to take up my phone and call my mom and my dad, to tell them I was fine. I dialed my mom’s number, but people in the streets, running inside the buildings nearby interrupted me. I knew right away, what it was. One of the towers fell was falling down! The tower was covered in a cloud of smoke, and the cloud grew bigger as it fell down. First, it there was a loud bang, and then a big cloud of dust and pulverized concrete came towards me and all the other people. A bunch of other people and I ran into a shop.
The first tower was gone, now we had to wait for the smoke to settle and the second tower to fall down.
