Background:

The Vietnam war lasted from 1955-1975. It was a bloody and costly war, that USA eventually lost. The reason for a conflict to occur down in Vietnam, was because of different political views. The north were communists, supported by Soviet, and the south were supported by USA. USA said they went into Vietnam to prevent the thought process in communism of spreading. USA lost the war, as mentioned, and they suffered a great economic setback after this.

Why?

We chose this important event because it had a big impact on the US, both during the fight, and in the aftermath. Vietnam was the country that suffered the most, naturally, but several other countries were stricken as well. The thing that made this war more appealing to us, rather than for example the Second World War, was the fact that we knew less about it, yet it seemed interestingly familiar. This was the first major war to be broadcasted around the world as well, which led to great opposition against the entire war, and this was another reason to why we chose this event.

How?

To make this radio show, we approached the task quite openly. We wanted to do some research, but mainly use our knowledge and memories. Our goal in this show was to make the listener “see” this war from the eyes of those who were against it. We had an interview with a “hippie”, and they were as known against the war. We also had an interview with a veteran, who was sick and tired of fighting, and critical to the entire “destroy, kill, and burn everything” way of attacking. By picturing the war from this perspective, we feel like we got a very pathos filled show. We included a patriotic radio host as well, for the extra tension and contrasts.

What?

We feel that there is one thing this radio show focuses on. The dark side of war. All those people who suffer for nothing, all those people who gets killed without a reason, they are the ones we should think of, they are the ones who have to deal with the most pain. We wanted to make the listener aware of the rancid means of war USA used, and what those who experienced it thought about it.
