Last Night’s Tea Party
The people of the British colonies in America are getting sick of Britain’s taxes on tea. Last night a group of rebellions in Boston did something about it.

Last night a group of rebellions, disguised as Native Americans boarded three ships, The Beaver, Dartmouth, and Eleanour. They destroyed the tea which was on board, by tossing it into the Boston harbor. Between the hours of 7p.m and 10p.m, they destroyed 45 tons of tea, worth 50 000 US dollars. The tea was sent by the East Indian Company, which has a monopoly on delivering tea, and it had arrived just a few hours before it was destroyed.
The goal was to open the eyes of the British government.
An eyewitness told us how angry crowds could be heard chanting: “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESANTATION!” By this, they refer to the fact that the American colonists do not have a person representing the colonies’ interests in the British government. Therefore, they are not willing to pay taxes.
When we asked one of the members (who wants to remain anonymous) why they decided to destroy the tea, he answered determinedly: “We want the British government to know that we will not pay taxes, if it does not benefit us. We do not want to pay taxes so the king can live in luxury. We have gotten rid of the taxes on other goods, and we sure do not want to pay taxes for tea, considering we drink a lot of it”.
Many of the colonists believe they are being heavily taxed, because of the outcome of the French and Indian war, which put Britain in a large amount of debt.
“The Americans are determined to get rid of the taxes for tea”, states another member of the rebellious group, who also wants to remain anonymous. “We are the only ones paying taxes for tea at the moment. In Britain they do not have to. There are many Americans who feel passionately about separating from Britain”, he explains. “Both having to pay extra taxes and not being represented in the British government, are reasons to become a separate country. That way we can make our own rules and get back the feeling of being a part of something important”.
The questions everyone is asking themselves are: “What to do next? And will the colonies eventually form their own independent country?”
What do you think? How will the British government react? We will keep you updated on this story as it transpires.
