Tuesday 11th of September 2001 was supposed to be a normal day for the people of New York and around the world. At 8.45 am in the morning the first hijacked plane stroke into one of the two Twin towers. Police, doctors and firefighters quickly came to the place to help injured people at the site of the crash. While cameras rolled to catch what just had happened, the second plane appeared in the skies. This one flew straight into the other tower. USA was under attack from Al-Qaida, and this day was going to change the world.

Al-Qaida and USA

Al-Qaida is an Islamic group located in the Middle East and was founded in Saudi Arabia. The attack on the twin towers is not the first time Al-Qaida have used terror against the United States. In 1998, the terror organization preformed their first attack against American interests. Two truck bombs detonated outside the American embassies in Nairobi and Dar-es-Salam. Al-Qaida’s second attack on USA found place in year 2000, just one year before the attack on twin towers. The American warship, USS Cole was attacked and seventeen American soldiers were killed. The reason why Al-Qaida attacks USA is because they mean that Jews and Christians threaten the Muslim world. They also mean USA and Israel is the leading countries for this threat.

The Witnesses reactions

At the day of terror (9/11) many of our journalists were out in the streets of New York to look for people that saw the disaster at close range. We managed to find people that shared their reactions, pictures and movies to the happening that shocked a whole world. Under the image, you can read an interview with one of the persons that shared his story with us.

Interview with John Smith.

- So Mr. Smith, where were you the moment the crash took place?

- I work as a lawyer so I was at work at the time of the crash. I work in a building about 1 kilometer from twin towers in one of the upper floors. I sat in my office with some of my colleagues. We were having a cup coffee and some donuts before we were going to start working at 9.00 am. While we were talking, we heard a noise that sounded like a big bomb had detonated.

- What was your first reaction when you heard the noise?

- When I heard the noise I got frightened and my hart started beating fast, most because the bang was so loud that I thought it came from the building I was inside. After I saw smoke streaming out of the right twin tower, I relaxed a bit. At the same time, I took up my phone and started a video tape. While I had my phone up, I could clearly see the second plane crashed in to the other tower and I was sure that the United States of America was under attack.

How can we prevent terror like this again?

After the shocking attack on twin towers our president and the military are discussing how we can prevent USA and other countries from terror attacks like this. Many people have discussed this question already and some of the answers are quite interesting. For example, many mean that the airports have to get better security systems. That includes passengers, pilots and other crew members. In addition, many experts mean that we need to destroy terror organizations. It’s also told that USA will send out military special groups to kill Osama Bin Laden. Most of the people only have one meaning about this. They don’t care what America does. The only thing that matter is that the world will never see a terror attack like this again.
