Nov 22, 1963
My wife, Jacqueline, rarely accompanied me on political outings. This time however, she was sitting next to me along with the Texas Governor John Connally and his wife. On November 22nd 1963, our Lincoln convertible drove through the streets of downtown Dallas. As we waved to the people standing along the parade, we had no clue what was going to happen when we would drive past the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m. You are soon to be experiencing my very last moment as the President of the United States. Actually, you will see my very last moment breathing.

It was a beautiful Friday morning. The sky was as bright as ever and the sun was shining. Despite the rather cold temperature and the light breeze sweeping the clouds away, it was like a cold summer morning. I was not sure whether I was ready or not for what I was about to do. I mean, who is ready when they are about to kill one of the world‘s most powerful men? Yes, yes, you heard correctly. I, Lee Harvey Oswald, was about to shoot the President of the United States.
As I climbed the stairs of the Depository, all I could focus on was that this was it. It was now or never. Even though the President had not yet arrived in Dallas, the streets were full of people. Thank God, they were too busy looking for any sign of Mr. Kennedy rather than looking for suspicious people in the crowds.

The moment it was announced that the President was visiting Dallas, I knew what I had to do. I applied for every job available in the area where the motorcade was going to run. Luckily, in October, my job at the Depository was confirmed and at this point, I had it all figured out.

Being the President of the United States for three years is quite tiring. Especially on days like this. I swear it will be the death of me one day. All the security, the pressure, everyone seeing everything I do… It just gets overwhelming. With that being said, I love my job. To run for President was one of the best choices I have ever made.
In moments like this, I seem to forget all of the problems in this cruel world. I have always lived by the idea that mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind, but right now, when I am met with thousands of cheering people, all of those grips of reality seem to disappear. It is as if I enter a new world, where nothing can go wrong.
“Mr. President, you can’t say that Dallas doesn’t love you,” Mrs. Conally suddenly said joyfully. I let my gaze fly over the crowd as I muttered back: “That’s very obvious.” I then let my gaze fall on the building we were driving by. I was suddenly struck by this strange feeling. I tried to say something, but my words got stuck in my throat. It all happened so quickly. I heard this strange, sharp clicking sound – a shot. I heard it once. Twice. Thr…..

While people ran in panic, I packed up my .38 revolver and left the room as fast as I could. There was some sort of low murmur, probably by the security forces running up the stairs to search the building. The screams of horror amused me in a way, I had succeeded. Things do not just happen. They are made to happen. The President of the United States was dead, and it was my doing.
