The maiden voyage of the White Star Liner “Titanic”, the largest ship in the world, has ended with over a thousand fatalities. What happened?

“The Titanic” started her trip from Southampton on Wednesday the 10th of April , and was heading for New York.

Late on Sunday night she hit an iceberg. The crew was aware of the danger and got several warnings about icebergs in the days before the accident. By using Morse codes they sent out distress signals after the hit, but no one was close enough to save all the passengers on board.

Different stories of what has really happened have already occurred. Unfortunately, it turns out that the earliest reports, that all on board had been saved out of the situation, are a little too optimistic. Instead, it is reason to believe that the newer and sad news of many dying, is closer to the truth about what has happened.

Mr. Franklin, a representative of the company White Star Line, announced late last night that the ship RMS T2itanic” sank on the night of April 15. He said as follows, "This morning I was sure that the reports which said that, all passengers were rescued and the ship still was unsinkable, was true. The first concrete news to of the contrary came this evening from the captain of the rescue ship, “Concordia”. The new statement saying that the ship sank to the ocean’s floor and that only 675 out of 2,400 passengers have been rescued, is shocking. "

The two ships “Virginian” and “Parisian” are still looking for survivors. Our main hope is that they will save the largest possible number of passengers and crew. However, based on what we now know, it is difficult to make any assumptions.

The British shipping company “The White Star Line” has so far built the world's two largest ships. Now that the “Titanic” has sunk, the “Olympus” is once again the world's largest ships. This will have major consequences for the planning and construction of the White Star Line’s next ship, the “Britannic”.
